REMI

Summer 2012 REMI TranSight Series

These Webex sessions will explore economic and fiscal policy through the lens of a dynamic model

Date/Time
June 12, 2012 - July 26, 2012
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

This summer, REMI (Regional Economic Models, Inc.) will host a six-session, online series for our economic and transportation model, TranSight. These sessions will cover the software interface, building simulations, project prioritization, travel demand integration, and financing options. These sessions are intended for new or experienced TranSight users, but REMI PI+ users or interested parties should still find the information on model capabilities (and financing options, in particular) involving. Moreover, prior to sessions, we will distribute handouts detailing the content of the session to enhance participants’ level of intentness.

We offer each session with multiple date options, and the webinars each last approximately one hour. While participants need not attend all the sessions, we strongly encourage you to do so. We offer all presentations free of charge at 2:00 p.m. EDT through our WebEx online conferencing system.

Transportation Session Title Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. (EDT) Thursday at 2:00 p.m. (EDT)
Session 1: Introduction to TranSight Series June 12 June 14
This session will introduce the training series and its content, and it will also include a refresher course on the REMI PI+ and TranSight model structures. We will discuss potential model inputs and outputs, and also offer time for the audience to suggest content or transportation topics they would like to see later in the series.
Session 2: Forecasting Household Demography in PI+ and TranSight June 19 June 21
This presentation will feature new research for the REMI models–analytical capability to break down regional household demography. This includes methodology and results for the number of households, household size, income levels, labor force participation, vehicles by household, and data on averages and relative distributions.
Session 3: Building Projects and Running Scenarios June 26 June 28
This session will take users though the major steps of transportation and economic analysis in TranSight. This includes how to work with the model interface, importing travel demand data, setting construction inputs, running simulations, modeling multiple projects, and other factors to consider before hitting the [RUN] button.
Session 4: Travel Demand Model Integration July 10 July 12
This session will detail how TranSight works with information from travel demand models to do benefit-cost analysis (BCA) and economic impact analysis (EIA). This will include looking at VMT, VHT, and trips data, and how they then influence productivity, industry clustering, commodity access, labor pooling, and regional attractiveness.
Session 5: Financing Options in the REMI Models July 17 July 19
Choosing financing options at the state- or regional-level for transportation projects is a hot topic, and this session will cover how to model financing decisions inside of the TranSight framework. These include general sales taxes, gas taxes, personal income taxes, property taxes, various business taxes, tolls, VMT fees, or attendee suggestions.
Session 6: Harnessing the Results and Series Finale July 24 July 26
This session will build on the economic, demographic, and transportation outputs discussed in other sessions. In addition, it will greatly expand on them with added details and some time-saving techniques in the model interface. In the conclusion, we will save time for Q&A and invite constructive criticism on the topics and multimedia series.
