We are excited to announce REMI’s 38th Annual Users’ Conference which is being hosted from October 18th-20th in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza. This conference is open to all REMI users’, and is designed to provide a platform for these users’ to present their latest research, connect with other analysts, and to learn more about REMI model development.

Call for Papers:
Each year, the Users’ Conference honors pioneering economic impact analysis with the George I. Treyz Award for Excellence in Economic Analysis. If you have conducted recent research using REMI and are interested in submitting your paper for the award, please fill out the “GIT Award Submissions” tab, or email the report to Brian Riel at brian.riel@remi.com. The deadline to submit a paper is Friday, August 4th.
Activities:
This year, Users’ Conference attendees have the choice of attending either Monet: The Immersive Experience, or The Escape Game Cincinnati. Both of these activities will be occurring following the final presentations on Friday, October 20th, and will provide interactive and unique experiences. Read below to learn more about each activity, and please click here to RSVP for your activity of choice.
Monet: The Immersive Experience
This exhibit will allow you to experience Monet’s work in a unique, interactive, and exciting way. You will be immersed in a 360-degree show that features the work of Monet, as well as his life. The whole experience will last for 1 hour and 30 minutes, and is located within a short walk from the hotel venue. We recommend this activity to anybody interested in Monet, or anybody who wants to experience a unique exhibit that travels across the nation.
The Escape Game Cincinnati will allow you to experience an interactive and challenging experience through being a part of an escape room. Escape rooms are designed to give you an experience that no other activity can provide, and allows you to hone in your teamwork skills. The Escape Game Cincinnati’s games are some of the most immersive in the country. The game will last around 1 hour and 30 minutes, and is located within a 0.3 mile walk from the hotel venue. We recommend this activity to anybody interested in an immersive, teamwork, and challenging experience.

Frederick R. Treyz, Ph.D. is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Economist at Regional Economic Models, Inc. (REMI), a leading provider of dynamic economic and demographic modeling software and consulting. He is an authority on analyzing public policies and their regional macroeconomic and population impacts. Under Dr. Treyz’s leadership, REMI has shaped public policy debates by helping clients evaluate economic development, transportation, energy, immigration reform, and other topics. The company’s clients include federal, state, and regional agencies, metropolitan planning organizations, leading national associations, universities, and consultants who seek to analyze the implications of public policy.
Dr. Treyz holds an A.B. in Economics from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in Regional Science from the University of Pennsylvania.

He has also been involved in analyzing and processing data, testing, and troubleshooting.
Mr. Hayes received a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Grimes received his master’s degree in economics from the University of Michigan. His primary research interests are in labor economics and economic forecasting.
For more than 30 years, he has been engaged in economic forecasting for state and local governments and is frequently called upon for policy advice. He has worked for many years with the Michigan departments of Transportation and Treasury and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation on policy analysis and evaluating economic strategies. He is co-director of a project to generate long-term economic and demographic projections for all of the counties of Michigan. His past research includes a study looking at Michigan’s industrial structure with a view to identifying sectors that will promote economic growth in the future.
He has been involved in research projects sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He co-authored a paper, “Change in the Concentration of Employment in Computer Services: Spatial Estimation at the U.S. Metro County Level” (Growth and Change, March 2007). He also co-authored a paper, “Exploring Wage Determination by Education Level: A U.S. Metropolitan Statistical Area Analysis From 2005 to 2012” (Economic Development Quarterly, August 2016).

Prior to coming to Clemson in 2005, he taught economics at Anderson University and Tri-County Technical College. He has conducted economic impact analyses of multiple colleges and universities, including Clemson, Lander, and the Citadel. He has also conducted fiscal projections for several South Carolina counties and school districts and numerous impact analyses for private and nonprofit sector clients.

In this capacity, he provides oversight and guidance to research initiatives and policy development across all major focus areas of the organization. He leads the Council’s quantitative modeling of economic impacts, energy markets, international trade, and fiscal policy.
Mr. Nystrom comes to the Council after a five-year software career and seven-year consulting career. In these roles, Mr. Nystrom conducted studies related to climate policy, demographics, economic development, the energy sector, fiscal policy, healthcare policy, international trade, labor relations, scope emissions, and transportation.
Prior to the Council, Mr. Nystrom worked for FTI Consulting. He was the co-lead and lead economist of its impacts and policy analysis practice. Prior to FTI Consulting, Mr. Nystrom worked for Regional Economic Models, Inc. (“REMI”). He holds a B.A. in History, B.S. in Economics, and M.A. in Economic History from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

His recent publications arose from collaborations on the life sciences industry, STEM workforce, renter demographics, industrial banking, racial economic disparities, and national park visitor spending. Previously, Dr. Pace presented in-depth studies on the statewide economic and fiscal impacts of the defense and tech sectors. Other research areas include health care, public lands, education outcomes, access to child care, income inequality, and veterans.
Related to his data analysis for these projects, Pace teaches quantitative methods in the University of Utah’s Master of Public Policy program. Prior to joining the Gardner Institute, he taught economic history and theory courses for the University of Utah’s Department of Economics, Weber State University, and Westminster College.
Pace received a bachelor’s degree in history from Alice Lloyd College and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Utah. His dissertation explored bankruptcy policy and individual insolvency. As a graduate assistant, he researched state and local tax policy on campus and for the Utah Legislature.

He is an experienced adaptive leader with a demonstrated history of advocacy and innovation in human services and community development. After receiving his Master’s in Social Work from Indiana University, Mr. Holcomb dedicated his time to helping others around him. In addition to his job at Region 1 Planning, he also volunteers as the Treasurer for Sustain Rockford and as part of the DVHT Task Force team leader. He is involved in causes such as civil rights, economic empowerment, the environment, and human rights.
