Washington, D.C. Luncheon Economic Effects of Criminal Justice Reform

Info

Over the course of four decades, the U.S. prison population surged as elected officials emphasized “tough on crime” policies. In recent years, calls for reforming the criminal justice system have gained traction, as both conservatives and liberals seek to address perceived excesses and injustices.

Lawmakers have pursued, or at least considered, a range of changes on the federal and state levels – from revising sentencing guidelines to legalizing marijuana. Reforms may not only dramatically change individual lives, but also reshape the economy as more people join the workforce and prison spending declines.

Please join REMI Senior Economist Peter Evangelakis, Ph.D. for our monthly Washington, D.C. luncheon on Thursday, February 28th, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., when he will give a presentation titled “Economic Effects of Criminal Justice Reform.”

REMI luncheons are held each month at Metro Center, 700 12th Street NW, Suite 700, Washington, D.C. 20005.

For this presentation, Dr. Evangelakis will provide an overview of criminal justice reform and its possible economic effects. He will analyze recent changes, focusing in particular on recent action in Congress and case studies in state reform, as well as demonstrate how to evaluate the impacts on output, employment, and revenue using dynamic economic modeling.

We’re offering this event free of charge; however, we do ask that you register in advance. If you would like to attend this event, please email Brian Boyd at brian.boyd@wp.remi.com, contact us by phone at (413) 549-1169, or fill out the registration page for this event.
