Competing tax policy ideas are inspiring political debate on the national and state levels.
Republicans and Democrats are arguing over the effectiveness of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, the legislative centerpiece of the Trump presidency. At the same time, some Democrats are floating populist tax ideas – from a higher top marginal rate to a wealth tax.
REMI will be hosting our monthly Washington, D.C. policy luncheon on Thursday, April 25th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. that features Senior Economist Peter Evangelakis, Ph.D. discussing “Tax Policy: New Ideas and State-Level Impacts of TCJA.”
REMI luncheons are held each month at Metro Center, 700 12th Street NW, Suite 700, Washington, D.C. 20005.
For this presentation, Dr. Evangelakis will review the implications of the 2017 tax law, in particular changes to state and local tax (SALT) deductions and the continuing impacts on high-tax states.
He will go beyond existing law to also consider the potential economic implications from populist proposals to increase taxes on wealthy families while demonstrating the modeling approaches for evaluating different policy ideas.
We’re offering this event free of charge; however, we do ask that you register in advance. If you would like to attend this event, please email Brian Boyd at brian.boyd@wp.remi.com, contact us by phone at (413) 549-1169, or fill out the registration page for this event.
