REMI luncheons are held each month at Metro Center, 700 12th Street, NW, Suite 700, Washington D.C. 20005.
Under the new tax law, the scaling back of state and local tax deductions has prompted consternation in high-tax, high-cost states and inspired some state officials to search for ways to shield their residents.
REMI cordially invites you to our monthly Washington D.C. policy luncheon on Thursday, February 22nd, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. when REMI economist, Peter Evangelakis, Ph.D., will explore options for states in light of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and the implications of changes to state tax codes.
For this presentation, Dr. Evangelakis will take a close look at one possible workaround – shifting from a state income tax to an employer-side payroll tax that would still be deductible under the new law. He will demonstrate how states can estimate economic effects as they revise their tax code in response to the federal law. Dr. Evangelakis will also discuss what this might mean for the federal government.
