Midterm elections often shake up politics and inspire a shift in policy-making, especially in state government. This November, Oregon and 38 other states or territories will hold gubernatorial elections, including 18 with open seats.
REMI cordially invites you to a luncheon presentation titled “Decision 2018 – Policy and the Economy” in Salem, Oregon on Tuesday, November 6th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Oregon is grappling with a range of issues – such as education, health care, and immigration – and the outcome of its gubernatorial election could help shape the state’s future direction.
For this presentation, REMI Economic Associate Cameron Luther will discuss the issues in the upcoming election and the economic policy implications. He will explore the role of dynamic economic modeling in evaluating alternative solutions and providing objective answers in contentious times.
We will also feature a guest presentation by Marley Buchman, Associate at ECONorthwest, analyzing the recently-released research on the state of Oregon’s housing affordability challenge. His presentation will address the short- and long-term economic, fiscal, and environmental implications of different statewide housing development scenarios, as well as the challenges specific to the Oregon housing market and options for policy makers looking to incentivize growth.

Cameron Luther
REMI
Cameron Luther is an Economic Associate at REMI, responsible for client support and business development. Mr. Luther joined the REMI team as a recent graduate of The Ohio State University. While studying at Ohio State, Mr. Luther was heavily involved in Columbus’ Smart Cities program. He served as a liaison between Columbus and OSU, assisting the city with academic expertise. He was also a founder of Smart Campus, a student group dedicated to applying novel technology to campus problems. As a result, he is interested in using REMI’s many products, such as TranSight, to model to analyze the complex effects of smarter cities and other economic issues related to the regional economy. While at Ohio State, Mr. Luther also conducted research, investigating neuroeconomic explanations for recent findings in behavioral economics. Mr. Luther graduated from OSU with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a concentration in Statistics.
Marley Buchman
ECONorthwest
Marley Buchman joined ECONorthwest as an associate in 2017. He specializes in economic impact modeling, statistical programming, and data analysis, providing insights across a wide range of economic, education, and urban development projects. Before joining ECONorthwest, Marley worked as a Senior Economic Associate for Regional Economic Models Inc. While at REMI, Marley modeled the economic and fiscal impacts of changes in transportation, taxation, energy, and environmental policies across the U.S. He has experience in machine learning, data visualization with Shiny, and is an expert in both using REMI models for policy analysis, and statistical programming in R.
